THE DOLPHIN BEHIND THE CANDLE

Meet muppet

Muppet is an adult female Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin who lives in Moreton Bay, Queensland. First recorded by Dolphin Research Australia in December 2010, she can be recognised by the distinctive notch along the back edge of her dorsal fin.

Muppet belongs to Southern Moreton Bay’s resident dolphin community and is often seen searching for fish among the region’s mangroves and channels. She is also a caring and nurturing mother, regularly photographed with a calf swimming close by. Dolphin calves depend on their mothers for at least the first four years of life, forming a remarkable bond built on protection, guidance and trust.

The dolphins in Muppet’s community share a strong sense of connection, helping one another find food and care for their young. It is this loving, close-knit nature that made Muppet such a meaningful inspiration for Bottlenose Candles.

Through Dolphin Research Australia, we are proud to have adopted Muppet and to support research that helps protect dolphins like her in the wild.
